Over the past few decades, there has been a rapid growth in technological advancements across the globe. It has created a rise in demand for technologically skilled professionals in the world to simplify our lives through technology. Hence, the students should be well-educated and well-versed in technical skills for good opportunities in the future.
To implement this transformation in education, the curriculum must be changed. These are the future trends and innovations expected in the development of Curriculum Framework
Introduction of Technology –
The rise in technological advancements and innovations across the globe has increased the demand for technically skilled professionals across the globe. All the companies are moving towards digitization and automation of their operations. Further, there is a huge rise in new digitally run businesses like e-commerce, e-learning, online delivery, social media, etc.
There is a rise in job opportunities in these professions for the upcoming generation of students. Hence, students need to learn these skills and technologies at a young age such that they have a good hold on new software and machines in the future. So the curriculum must be created by considering all these factors. It must include technical education at a young age.
Skill-based Learning-
There is rising awareness regarding the clear gap between the educational materials and practices in institutes versus the demand of industry professionals and organizations in the job market. A lot of the students that are completing degrees and courses have very little knowledge about their core subject which makes them unemployable.
To increase students’ knowledge and make them employable, it is necessary to implement skill-based education in the institutes. The students should gain skills and knowledge about their subject of interest by the end of the course. The curriculum should be created such that it is away from rote-based learning, focusing on improving the skills of the students.
Learning Soft skills-
The curriculum development must be such that the students must learn soft skills like communication, leadership, networking, teamwork, and others. They must be a part of the curriculum to make the students good learning professionals in the industries.
Soft skills play an important part in making the students good colleagues and bosses. It enhances their emotional learning experience making them ready for opportunities in the future. They improve student’s persona and way of carrying themselves which are also important factors apart from having subject knowledge. The curriculum framework should be built after considering these factors.
Improving Professionalism-
Professionalism is an important aspect of students’ lives to make them good and reliable professionals in the future. It is a quality that helps students in all stages of life, in all professions and jobs. NEP 2020 has emphasized the overall development of the students to make them well-versed in these skills apart from knowledge and technical skills.
The curriculum framework must be developed such that it improves these qualities among the students. Further, the evaluation system must be developed to score the students based on their overall growth, apart from just bookish knowledge.
Collaborative Learning-
Collaborative learning is a method of teaching students through group activities and collaboration-based learning. It aims to improve their skills such as communication, understanding others’ perspectives, gaining emotional intelligence, and learning through each other’s experiences. The students work together in groups, projects, assignments, and other activities.
These methods of learning can also be implemented with the help of online software in e-learning. The curriculum framework must be developed by giving weightage to such activities in institutes. They make the students ready for future opportunities. The students learn about multiple cultures, languages, and traditions by working with each other.
New Educational Approaches-
The traditional methods of education that are followed in the institutes are teacher-centric where the students taught the teachers in instructional form. There is no way to understand students’ participation or attention in the classroom. Hence, it is important to implement new educational approaches that increase students’ classroom participation by including interactive activities and new educational approaches.
The new educational methods are based on increasing skills among the students. They include OBE, CBCS, and others, where the desired outcome of the course is defined at the beginning. The teachers ensure that students are on the right track to the desired outcome.
Enhancing Learning Experiences-
The curriculum framework must be developed to improve students’ learning experience in the institutes. The institutes can implement all these teaching-learning methods by improving infrastructure and equipment for students’ use. Further, access to technologies and innovations can help students.
Conclusion-
The curriculum framework development needs to consider several factors to create a syllabus that benefits the students in their life. It should not be focused on helping students score marks and grades. They must enhance students’ skills and make them ready for future opportunities. Implementation of new and advanced methods of operations and teaching-learning along with the availability of infrastructure and equipment in the institutes can help in managing the new curriculum.
